Starfield Easter Eggs are rife in Bethesda’s new action-RPG game and players are keen to seem them all.

From the obvious to the more subtle, they reference popular franchises like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and even Bethesda’s own Elder Scrolls VI.

So here are all of the major Easter Eggs we know of in Starfield.

1. Lord of the Rings Easter Egg In Starfield

This Easter Egg involves potatoes, affectionately referred to as ‘Taters’ in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Sean Astin’s Samwise Gamgee utters the phrase during an exchange with Andy Serkis’s Gollum, sees the hobbit exclaim his love of potatoes by listing some of the many ways of preparing “taters.”

The description of Potatoes in Starfield reads “Can be prepared many ways, Boiled, mashed, used in a stew.”

2. Arrow To The Knee Skyrim Easter Egg

An iconic line in Skyrim comes from almost any guard you seemingly speak to, explaining:

“I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took an arrow to the knee…”.

This has subtly been carried over to Starfield – the Crippling Skill from Starfield’s combat tree icon is a leg taking an arrow to the knee.

3. Dogs Are Extinct In Starfield

It’s been noted that Labradors (and perhaps all dogs) are extinct in the Starfield universe.

A food item called ‘Chocolate Labs’ is described as:

“Centauri Mills’ chocolates, shaped like an extinct canine called a Labrador Retriever.”

Meaning that Labradors are not in Starfield but as there are no dogs in the game at all, it could mean all dogs are extinct.

4. Opportunity Rover On Mars

Players can find the Opportunity Rover on Mars.

After visiting and interacting with the MER Program exhibit at the NASA launch tower they will get a notification allowing them to visit the landing site and see the Opportunity Rover.

Other Easter eggs include real-life astronauts and NASA’s Curiosity Rover and Spirit/Opportunity Rover.

The Curiosity Rover was launched in 2011 to explore the Martian surface and appears to be in the possession of the Constellation (it is displayed at their headquarters in-game). The other real-life rover is either the Spirit or Opportunity Rover and it’s hard to know for sure which one is it as they both look almost identical. Another one is four real-life astronauts whose names are used for naming the planets in the Alpha Centauri system in Starfield, which is Chawla, Gagarin, Jemison, and Olivas.

5. Famous Earth Landmarks In Starfield

Players will be able to visit a number of famous landmarks on Earth that are still (somewhat) standing.

This includes the Shard in London, The Pyraminds in Cairo, NASA Launch Tower in Cape Canaveral and the Empire State Building in New York.4

6. Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi Starfield Easter Egg

A Robotic Resonance LLC poster advertises something called ‘Blue Harvest’ with the image of an automated robot dusting some crops.

This is actually a reference to the Return of the Jedi, as the ‘Blue Harvest’ was the working title for the 1982 film.

7. Fallout 4’s Diamond City In Easter Egg

In the Frontier ship, early in the game, when you enter and access the main hull, head over to the bed and on the shelf you’ll see a baseball sitting on a Silver plinth (which is shaped like an upside-down diamond).

The plaque on the diamond reads:

“Playoff baseball – Circa 1978, Old Earth, Boston”.

This is a nod to Fallout 4, which takes place in Boston, and one of its key locations Diamond City (a settlement built in the ruins of Fenway Park Baseball Stadium).

It also references the 1978 American League East Tie Breaker game that saw the Boston Red Sox beaten by their rivals the New York Yankees (a game that took place at Fenway Park).

8. Apollo 11 Landing Site

Starfield Easter Eggs aren’t always subtle or about obscure references. One of humankind’s most iconic moments in history can be visited in-game.

This is of course the first time man walked on the moon, complete with the Apollo 11 space shuttle and American flag.

9. Don’t Use Helmet Sticker

A small but funny Easter Egg involves a Space Helmet with a ‘Don’t Use’ sticker on it.

If you put the helmet on, you’ll see the back of the sticker on the inside of the Visor.

10. Tardigrade Monster Costume

Tardigrades are microscopic water-bear creatures that endure and survive in extreme environments.

It is believed that Tardigrades have been surviving on Earth for roughly 600 million years, which is longer than Dinosaurs.

Starfield decided to pay tribute to this resilient icon with a scary costume.
