Overwatch 2 Season 5 has come to an end in August and Season 6 has begun.
This next season is a big one, with new support hero ‘Illari’ arriving and the new Flashpoint mode with two maps called ‘Survasa’ and ‘New Junk City’.
The recent mid-season update adjusted a few heroes, of which we can expect more of the same in the new season.
So what’s new in Season 6 of Overwatch 2?
Release Date
The next season of Overwatch 2, Season 6, arrives on August 10th 2023.
The new season will start at 12PM PT, which is 8PM BST

The update is available for pre-download on Battle.net and is roughly 6GB in size.

Flashpoint
Flashpoint is the new game mode coming to Season 6 of Overwatch 2.
Similar to Assault from the original game, only this time teams will compete to capture different points around the map one after another.
Once a Flashpoint has been captured, a new one will appear elsewhere. The first team to secure three will win the match.
With this new mode, two new maps will arrive.

As detailed in the latest Director’s Take, here are the Hero changes coming to Overwatch 2:

- Peacekeeper:
- Peacekeeper damage falloff range rescaled from 25-45 meters to 25-35 meters.
- Magnetic Grenade:
- Projectile now has a maximum travel time of 1.5 seconds.
- Slow amount reduced from 30 to 25%.

Sombra’s rework will not be coming until Season 7 where she will get a new ability.
New Support Hero
The new Support hero is called ‘Illari’.
Her abilities are as follows:
Weapon Solar Rifle
Primary
- Long range auto-charging rifle
Secondary
- Medium range healing beam that consumes solar energy
Outburst
- Launches you in the direction you are moving, knocking back enemies. Hold jump to go higher.
Healing Pylon
- Deploy a pylon that heals allies
Ultimate – Captive Sun
- Fire an explosive ball of solar energy. Enemies hit are slowed and explode after taking significant damage.
Story Missions
Story Missions will arrive in Season 6.
Players will be aiming to prevent a global invasion by the Null Sector.
Team up and take on “three action-packed missions that take place in Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg—massive maps with complex objectives, and an in-depth storyline that will guide you along the way.”
There will also be a bonus mission on King’s Row which sees players “guide a well-armed TS-1 push bot on a mission to save Iggy and the rest of the Omnic Underworld from Null Sector.”
To access these Story Missions, you will need to buy the Overwatch 2: Invasion bundle for $5.
Hero Mastery
While details are scarce, these will act as “training courses” specifically designed for each hero.
It will feature a leaderboard that tracks the best players with each character from around the world.
This feature will unfortunately not arrive at launch but will come in September’s mid-season update.
Cosmetics
The Overwatch 2 development team has revealed that Season 6 will increase cosmetics for Twitch Drops, and rewards will return to support Overwatch content creators.
