The 2023 release of Modern Warfare 3 is hotting up to be one of the games of the year, especially as Modern Warfare 3 Zombies have been confirmed.
The Zombies game mode has become a huge part of Call of Duty since being included in World at War, back in 2008.
Since then, Treyarch has mainly held the keys to the Zombies mode, with Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward occasionally including their own spin on the mode.
Modern Warfare® Zombies (MWZ) tells an involved and unearthly Dark Aether Zombies story set in the Modern Warfare universe.

Does Modern Warfare 3 Have Zombies?
It’s official, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be the first Modern Warfare game to have Zombies mode.
It will reportedly be “The largest Zombies offering to date” and a cross between DMZ and Outbreak.
It’s comparison to the Outbreak mode that debuted in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was earlier confirmed by Insider Gaming.
Outbreak was a large-scale Zombies experience that included many of the Fireteam and Combined Arms maps as the playground for the action.
For the most part, it just gave players a big Zombies experience without the limitations a traditional map setup did.
Fortunately, for those who really were invested in Zombies, it also provided Easter Eggs, rewards, new vehicles and intel to enhance the story.
It means that the maps included in this mode may be maps that are already featured in the game, but given the large-scale nature of Outbreak and how small multiplayer maps are, it could be that they make new unique maps.
Alternatively, with War being reintroduced into the game, they will need maps that fit the War mode; so it could be special War maps are made that are also repurposed for Outbreak.
It was also revealed in the past that Modern Warfare (2019) was working on a Zombies mode, which included some concept art. It was later scrapped; it could be this is used to help finish the Zombies mode.
Who Is Making MW3 Zombies?
It’s very likely that Sledgehammer Games are working on the Zombies mode, whatever that may look like.
With Treyarch working on the 2024 Call of Duty release, they’re likely focusing on their own Zombies mode.
Features And Details
The new Zombies mode is PVE only and will be played on the new Warzone map ‘Las Almas’.
Games will feature 6-player squads with up to 24 players on the map at one time (6 different squads).
The game mode will include typical features of a Zombies mode: Buy Stations, Wall Buys, Mystery Boxes and Pack-a-Punch.
Games will last for 60-minute “sessions” before being forced to exfiltrate.
What’s unique is there will be human threats as well as Zombies, with the difficult ramping up as you get closer to the centre of the map. Unlike other Zombies modes where the difficulty increased based on the longer you play or the higher the round number.
Interestingly, this Zombies storyline is a part of the Treyarch Zombie storyline.
