League of Legends is entering the fifth month of the year and the tenth patch is upcoming – so here are the LoL update 14.10 patch notes.

In the last update, we saw the Empyrean skins and a number of champion changes occur including a Lee Sin ASU.

In this update, the Faerie Court skins reappear.

Here’s what you need to know about update 14.10.

Split 2 Ranked Update

Here are the details on the Split 2 Ranked update:

  • Players will be able to place as high as Diamond III after provisional games (prev Emerald I)
  • Demotion protection between divisions (eg. Silver II > Silver III) will be removed. Players will fluidly transition between divisions
  • Demoting from tiers will place players at 25 / 50 / 75 LP depending on the player’s MMR at the time of demotion compared to their rank
  • Master Duo will be enabled in most regions (and will stop again at Grandmaster)

Arena

Arena changes have been detailed by @RiotPhroxzon:

  • Made tailoring of Prismatic anvils more in the players’ favor, but not overly so
    • Some solutions to give players more agency, such as the TFT reroll system are theoretically possible, but with the low number of prismatic items right now would harm replayability too much. Something like this could be an option after adding more prismatics however
    • We want the ideal prismatic to hit the sweet spot of not being guaranteed, while not forcing you down AP Darius if you miss. This is a work in progress, we know we’re not there right now
  • Jhin missile speed and spawn location adjusted
    • Missile speed reduced by 25% and spawn location made more fair to both teams
  • Arena God games from 168 >>> 60
    • After evaluating players’ current progress towards Arena God, it is just too hard.
    • Only 160 players have more than 20 1st places as of today out of… a lot of players. While we want this challenge to be hard, it’s just too hard and it would be sad if no one was able to acquire the challenge during the run of the mode
  • Ranked turning on in 14.10, MMR soft reset, better matchmaking for new players
    • Our matchmaking adjustments for new players were a good first step, but didn’t go far enough.
    • We’re also soft resetting high MMR players, per a typical ranked reset
  • Time before able to revive 11 – 8 >>> 12 – 8
    • Reviving an ally is a bit too easy on current tuning, so we’re making it a bit harder in early rounds, so the reviving ally is spending a little longer playing a 1v2
  • Many balance changes
    • Many balance changes to items, augments, champions, hitting mostly outliers
    • We’ve seen a lot of discussions around the meta, champions that are strong and weak. Overall, we’re seeing that there are different champion archetypes that are stronger and weaker in certain skill brackets and the most popular champions aren’t always the strongest
    • We’re hopeful that the meta will continue to develop over time. We are quite confident that there are many ways to play creatively and optimally, but this requires an open mind
  • Better augment tailoring
    • Some better tailoring of items/augments to show up when certain build criteria are met or not show up in other situations…
  • Hats hats hats
    • Hat stonks are rock bottom right now, with everyone spending late game money on stat anvils and juices * Eliminating teams and winning high stakes rounds grants a hat!
  • Koi Pond
    • We’ve seen a lot of discussion around Koi Pond recently
    • Koi Pond was designed to push some of the differences between the maps, champion matchups and add more interesting moments of gameplay; moments of opportunity and moments where you’re playing defensively
    • Having said that, we agree that some of the elements are not tuned correctly and being exacerbated by Jhin’s tuning
    • We’ve been experimenting with some blast cone placements and timings to make the spawn locations more fair, but not looking to significantly change the map currently and want to give it more time to soak and players to master it
  • Frustration in general
    • With a lot of these changes, we’re not trying to smooth out all the rough edges to minimize frustration. We don’t believe that sets up the mode for long term success
    • There needs to be enough variance to ensure the mode has long term replayability, this includes making sure that maps play out differently from each other, emphasize different comp strengths and weaknesses, you can high roll and low roll items and augments and sometimes these are going to be frustrating when you low roll, in the same way that sometimes playing against Yasuo as Lux is frustrating
    • In the short term, this may be frustrating, but we have enough learnings from TFT and other games that we feel confident in this approach directionally
    • Having said that, we know we don’t have enough mitigations to prevent bottom rolling and that’s too frustrating, even for us. It will be a work in progress, but the request is that y’all are patient with us as we build this mode together
