Is MW3 Releasing In 2023?

The 2023 release of Call of Duty is rapidly approaching as we await more details on what we can expect this year.

While Call of Duty is fairly consistent with their releases, dropping them in a similar time frame each year (every year), there are always slight variations.

What’s always of great debate, is what kind of game is launching in the Call of Duty series next? Particularly in 2023?

So is MW3 releasing in 2023?

Is Modern Warfare 3 Releasing In 2023?

Every year, without fail, since Call of Duty 4, the latest Call of Duty title has been released in the last few months of the year.

Usually, the new Call of Duty releases in either October or November.

It seems this year is no different, as the Judge overseeing proceedings in Activision’s court battle against the FTC on June 30th let it slip that this year’s Call of Duty would release in November 2023.

Great news! But what game is releasing? Is it Modern Warfare 3?

Historically, Call of Duty development teams take a three-year cycle to produce a game since Sledgehammer Games joined the rotation (previously it was only two when it was just Infinity Ward and Treyarch).

Previous Call of Duty launches usually see games launch in a sub-series every three years.

  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – 5 November 2007
  • Call of Duty: World at War – 11 November 2008
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – 10 November 2009
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops – 9 November 2010
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – 8 November 2011
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II – 12 November 2012
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts – 5 November 2013
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – 3 November 2014
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III – 5 November 2015
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – 4 November 2016
  • Call of Duty: WWII – 3 November 2017
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – 12 October 2018
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – 25 October 2019
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – 13 November 2020
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard – 5 November 2021
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – 17 September 2022

Ultimately, this consistency was thrown into the bin back in 2020, as Sledgehammer Games were struggling to meet the release date, forcing Treyarch to step in and produce Black Ops  Cold War.

It meant that Infinity Ward could continue with their three-year cycle, releasing Modern Warfare 2 (a sequel to their 2019 hit).

Logic would assume that they would lead you to believe that Modern Warfare 3 would take another two years to arrive, but that appears to not be the case.

It’s come to light that Modern Warfare 3 is the next Call of Duty game to release, later this year.

Modern Warfare 3 will be developed by Sledgehammer Games, featuring a Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies and a new Warzone 2 map.

It’s important to note none of this information is official and appears to be coming from leakers and rumours – so it is not set in stone.
