Gyarados ex Premium Collection: Release Date, Price, UK Pre-Order, Best Deals, What Packs Are Inside And Is It Worth It?

Not long after we were introduced to the new Charizard ex box, we are being shown a Gyarados ex Premium Collection box.

Scarlet and Violet are producing another standalone product for a fan-favourite Pokemon, this time the water/flying type takes the spotlight.

Uniquely, like the Charizard Premium Collection, this product also features a Tera Pokemon card, packs, sleeves and a magnetic card display.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Gyarados ex Premium Collection.

Gyarados ex Premium Collection Release Date

The Gyarados ex Premium Collection will be released on the 24th of September 2023.

This is because it was just revealed at the Gamestop Store Leader Conference; an event held every year where manufacturers like The Pokemon Company International show off their holiday products.

This product will likely retail at $39.99 in the US.

A price has yet to be revealed in the UK, but we’re expecting it to retail at £29.99.

Gyarados ex Premium Collection Pre-Order

As this has not been officially announced, it is now available for pre-order yet.

Gyarados ex Premium Collection Contents

What’s inside the box you ask? Here’s what you can expect

  • 1 etched foil promo card featuring Gyarados ex
  • 1 foil card featuring Magikarp
  • 6 Pokémon TCG booster packs
  • 1 magnetic card protector with display base
  • 65 card sleeves featuring Gyarados as a Tera Pokémon
  • A code card for Pokémon TCG Live

Unlike the Charizard ex promo card, this Gyarados ex card is a reprint of the Ultra-Rare Full-Art card from the Scarlet and Violet Base set

It also appears the one foil card of Magikarp is a reprint of the Scarlet and Violet base set card but with a holo-foil.

As for the packs, here’s what I believe to be the packs in the box:

  • Back-Left: Lost Origin
  • Middle- Left: Paldea Evolved
  • Front-Left: Obsidian Flames
  • Back-Right: Scarlet And Violet Base Set
  • Middle-Right: Paldea Evolved
  • Front-Right: Obsidian Flames

This is also the first time a product has launched with a magnetic card protector with a display base.

It also comes with 65 card sleeves with the key art from Obsidian Flames.

Is It Worth It?

Overall it seems like a really nice box and Gyarados cards hold their value fairly well.

A potential issue is that this card is a Scarlet and Violet Base Set reprint, while valued at £16-20, it will no doubt fall in value as consumers can just buy it.

For any sealed product collectors, this is a nice one to stash away but you can likely wait until its price falls a bit before putting it away for the long haul.

The packs are decent, nothing to write home about and IMO not as nice as some other boxes. The long Lost Origin pack is a nice touch, however, and if you are a sealed collector will be a nice one for the long haul.

If you need this Gyarados ex card for your set, I think it’s worth picking up as you’ll get £24 worth of packs, a card that’s worth more than £6, so you’ve already got value there; plus the extras are nice.
